Working in a dynamic and stimulating environment, you will serve as liaison to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. At least 50% of your time will be spent assessing your community's information needs, developing services to meet those needs, and delivering and evaluating those services. You will develop and manage print and electronic collections in EECS subject areas, participate in all aspects of reference work provided by the Engineering and Science Libraries --in the library, over the campus network, in faculty offices, and in the research laboratories. In addition, you will provide innovative educational programs to promote core information competencies to the MIT community. QUALIFICATIONS: An MLS from an ALA-accredited library school is required; an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering or computer science is desired. Public service or collection development experience in an academic or research library is desired. (Three years professional experience is required for appointment at the Librarian II level). Experience with electronic library resources and services as well as a working knowledge of new technologies preferred. Final candidates will be expected to demonstrate well-developed interpersonal and communications skills, as well as initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment. HIRING SALARY RANGE: $27,000 minimum (Librarian I appointment) $30,500 minimum (Librarian II appointment) Actual salary will depend on experience. The MIT Libraries include five major subject libraries (architecture and planning; engineering; humanities; science; social sciences and management) and several branch libraries in specialized subject areas. The Libraries contain more than 2.2 million printed volumes, over 21,000 serial subscriptions, and extensive collections of microforms, maps, slides, photographs, sound recordings, printed music, manuscripts, motion pictures, and videotapes. Geac Advance is the Libraries' automated system. The Libraries maintain membership in the Association of Research Libraries, the International Association of Technological University Libraries, the Boston Library Consortium, and OCLC through NELINET. The Engineering and Science Libraries, while physically separate, are jointly administered by a Head Librarian, an Associate Head for Information Services, and two Collections Managers, one for Engineering and one for Science. The engineering and science collections contain over 1 million printed volumes, over 1 million microforms, 8,000 current subscriptions, and a developing collection of electronic reference tools. The staff consists of 15 librarians, 4 supervisory staff, 23 support staff and approximately 7 FTE student employees.
