Welcome Evening at the Guinness Storehouse

The Guinness Storehouse
In the heart of Dublin is the legendary St. James’s Gate Brewery, home of Guinness since 1759. Designed in the shape of a giant pint glass and standing seven stories high, the Guinness Storehouse promises an evening that is not to be missed. This is an opportunity to meet with SIGIR 2013 delegates in true Irish style. Entertainment, drinks and local fare will be provided. The Welcome Reception begins with a short tour of the Guinness Storehouse (15 minutes). Delegates will then move to the fifth floor to enjoy delicious light bites and refreshments. Here you can catch up with friends and acquaintances and enjoy live music by an Irish Harpist. After this, delegates will be escorted to the famous Gravity Bar on the top floor, where you can sample some Guinness and the spectacular 360 degree views of Dublin City.



Newcomers’ Breakfast

SIGIR has a tradition of inviting new attendees to the SIGIR conference series to a morning breakfast on the first day of the main conference. This year the breakfast will take place at The Dining Hall, TCD from 07.15 – 08.45. This is for first time delegates to SIGIR who confirmed at time of registration that they would attend this breakfast. The dining hall is located in the main square at Trinity College.



Historical Irish Evening

Monday 29th July 2013
Dress Code: Comfy/Casual Attire (Comfy Shoes!)
Time: 19.00 – 21.00


This evening begins with a light reception in the exhibition area in the Arts building at Trinity College Dublin at 18.00. All welcome!

At 19.00 delegates who have booked the historical guided tour will be collected from the Arts building at Trinity College Dublin. A guided historical tour will take you to some of highlights of Dublin steeped in history and culture, like the famous Temple Bar. This will be a fun evening where you will get the opportunity to have a pint or two, catch up with old friends and make some new ones, and even meet the locals.


At 21.00 delegates will be dropped to a well-known Irish bar on Baggot Street, Dublin 2 called Doheny & Nesbitts, where they can enjoy a traditional Irish music session. All welcome and please note this is a cash bar where delegates will purchase their own drinks.


Please note that there will also be a no-bar, non-alcoholic tour option available.



Conference Banquet

Tuesday 30th July 2013
Venue: Croke Park Stadium
Dress Code: Smart Attire
Time: 18.00 – 23.00


Croke Park has been at the heart of Irish sporting life for over a hundred years and is home to legends, champions and heroes of Irish sport. Boasting a capacity of 82,300 people, the stadium is the home of Gaelic games. Delegates will enjoy some really good food along with entertainment from the Upducky band and traditional Irish dancing.
